Twas the Weekend Before Halloween…

And all throughout the streets,

All the creatures were prowling for tricks and for treats;

The Jack-o-lanterns were set on the porch with care,

In hopes the Great Pumpkin soon would be there;

The puppies were in costume down in Tompkins Square,

Dressed as monsters, and dreidels, and panda bears;

The moon all full and bright

Sent the message to all those looking for a fright;

Then all of a sudden, right before my face,

Appeared a figure whose image I couldn’t quite place;

I tried to remember, as over me he did loom,

Then I realized it must be a Banksy Costume!

More rapid than eagles his comrades arrived,

And he whistled, and shouted, and as they started to jive,

Then I heard him exclaim, as they vanished from sight,

Happy Halloween to all, and to all a good night!

Happy Halloween from us here at Birch!

Shhh, the City Is Sleeping

New York, the city that never sleeps seems to be a statement true to most cities around the world. Take a look at this blog, Silent Cities, that captures the sleeping moments. These images feature some of the most noisy and crowded places in the world momentarily bathed in silence. There is something both serene and eerie about these photographs. They have images from Detroit (see the picture above), London, Berlin, and many more. Take a look for yourself.
