It is said “if you enjoy your job, you’ll never work a day in your life.”  Birch Coffee is just that.

What began as an idea and as two individuals’ desire to love what they did for a living has quickly turned into something so much more.  The thought to provide people with their morning and afternoon cup of coffee has evolved into helping create a local stomping ground for people and cultivate an environment of ideal-seeking,

We like the planet, and, well, most of its inhabitants.  We serve food harvested as locally as possible and use Rainforest Alliance and bird friendly coffee and tea.  Did we mention no turtles are hurt in our coffee production!?

Giving back to the community is the foundation of Birch’s philosophy.  We invite you with us on this awesome journey of showing people that one person can make a difference, even if it is just a dent.  Birch Coffee is dedicated to not being just another local coffee shop, rather the ultimate coffee shop – a coffee community.  Come make a dent with Birch.

SUSTAINABILITY

When people think of “green” today, most think of the environment and what impacts, whether it be positive or negative, are being made on it. Being “green” is no longer a trend. It is a way of living that will hopefully improve our lives “one less plastic bottle in a landfill” at a time.

Birch Coffee has taken this initiative and gotten on board with a number of environmentally sustainable practices to try to let its customers and fans know that one person (or business) can actually make a difference. The more coffee we buy from sustainable farms, the less is being bought from farms that harbor unsafe working conditions and non-sustainable cultivation practices.

So what exactly makes Birch “green”:

  • All wood is from FSC certified growing farms. This means that the trees were planted to be cut down and takes away from deforestation.
  • Our counter tops are made from recycled concrete and installed with environmentally friendly sealant.
  • We compost everything from corn based iced coffee cups to coffee grinds to egg shells.
  • We filter our water with the latest technology to ensure the best water for our coffee and the best tasting tap for our customers.
  • Our kitchen and ventilation equipment are top of the line to ensure the least amount of wasted energy. Oh, and at night the lights go off.
  • All of our paints and sealers are low or no VOC. You know that “new paint” smell? Well those are actually toxins emanating from the paint. It didn’t smell like that when we painted!

Birch has recieved a LEED silver certification from the USGBC

The United States Green Building Council uses a third party verification to certify commercial interiors. They’re like the IRS only more green and less scary.

Green isn’t a word thrown around lightly at Birch it’s something we hold very dear to our hearts.

CAUSES

Twice a month we donate a percentage of our sales to the following organizations. We want to positively effect as many lives as possible man, woman or child. (and we <3 puppies too)

Falling Whistles
Falling Whistles gives a small window into our world’s largest war. Originally just a journal written about boys sent to the frontlines of war armed with only a whistle, readers forwarded it with the same kind of urgency in which it was written and demanded to know –
what can we do?

The Falling Whistles campaign launched with a simple response – make their weapon your voice and be a whistleblower for peace in Congo. Read the story and buy the whistle. Together we partner with local leaders to advocate and rehabilitate for those affected by war. Share their story and speak up for them. Together, we’ll become the voice of a growing coalition for peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
