Coffee Questions

Our coffee is roasted twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays. Your order gets picked from the most recently roasted batch!

There are many different ways to brew your coffee. Each method brings a different element to your cup of coffee. Please click here to see all the different methods of brewing. For your benefit, we have also indicated our recommendations of how to brew on each coffee product page. We source our green coffee from all over the world. We are always on the hunt for the best product so the countries may vary. Please check out our coffee page to see all the different countries and regions!

Flavor notes and profiles are words that we use to describe the different subtleties that are brought out within our coffees when we roast. If a coffee indicates "cherry", this doesn't mean we add any cherry flavoring, it means that the hint of cherry note is brought out in the coffee when it is roasted.

We recommend that after you have opened up a bag of coffee, use an air tight container to pour the coffee into. If you don't have a container, fold up the bag really tightly and use the tin ties on the side of the bag to keep it closed. It's really important to avoid storing your coffee in a freezer or refrigerator. This is not good for the coffee!

We have used a number of different filters to help you find the coffee that is right for you. You can use the filters on the coffee page which will show you different flavor notes, roast temperatures and other ways to determine which coffee is best for you.

There is about 90mg of caffeine in every cup of brewed coffee

As long as you store coffee properly, it won't spoil. The longer it sits though, the more gas is released the more flavor is lost. We recommend using the coffee within 90 days.

The water to coffee ratio should be 15:1. This means that for every gram of coffee that you weigh out, weigh out 15 times that for water. If you are using 30 grams of coffee, use 450 grams of water. This will actually give you a 12 ounce cup. Make sure not to mix up ounces and grams meaning if you weigh coffee in grams, weigh water in grams and not cups or ounces.

We recommend using a scale which can be purchased here. If you don't wish to get a scale, you can always use table and tea spoon measurements. Please refer to our brewing guide for more assistance.

We are happy to grind your coffee for you but if you would like to grind it at home, a conical grinder will be your best bet. It is also really important to keep your grinder as clean as possible.

All of our locations are wifi free. This means we don't offer wifi. We do have seating and each store has a vast library of books which we invite you to peruse and enjoy.

Yes! All our stores accept books. Please stop in and give us what you no longer need and want to pass on.

We serve a variety of freshly delivered pastries.

Most of our locations have seating. Our smaller locations have standing bars which we invite you to enjoy your coffee at. Our 36th St, 88th St, and 96th St locations have outdoor seating as well.

As big dog fans as we are, we can only accommodate service animals inside our stores.

We do not deliver at this time.

While we are unable to set up catering off-site, we offer a 96 oz box off coffee that can be ordered in advance and picked up from any location. Please contact us here to order a coffee box.
